Recycling
- We have a vast recycling system at the hotel property
- We recycle furniture and equipment (buy second-hand and sell old ones) as much as possible
Energy & Water
- Our hotel runs with 100% certified fossile-free energy (nuclear power) and the 100% of the heating is from renewable, carbon neutral, sources (wood materials)
- We pursue to limit water consumption for example with encouraging guests not to change their towels daily
Equality
- Whether it's the staff or our guests equality matters to us. We welcome all genders and people from any origin to work or stay at our hotel with an open heart.
- We have clear procedures in place for addressing harassment and safety concerns. Our general company policies include clear guidelines against harassment and exploitation.
- When recruiting personnel, the company makes the choices to hire a person only by their work related experience and fitting skill sets to the certain job.
- We stay up to date with Finnish laws and regulations through regular updates from trade associations, local authorities, and service providers. Compliance is monitored by management and integrated into staff training and internal audits. (Finnish Labor law 55/2001).
Animal Welfare
- We treat our hotel reindeer as a part of the Nova Skyland Hotel family, and offer/recommend our guests only responsible and ethical animal activities.
- We follow Finnish animal welfare law (693/2023) and ABTA’s Global Welfare Guidance for Animals in Tourism based on the principles of the Five Freedoms: good feeding, good housing, good health, appropriate behaviour and protection from fear and distress.
- In the restaurant, we will use only meat, fish and seafood that are certified and/or species that are knowingly 100% not endangered or protected. When planning menus, the chef will check CITES Checklist of Species and WWF’s Guide for Fish Species to ensure safe usage of certain ingredients.
Green Areas
- Our hotel has been built so that we preserve the nature around the property as much as possible.
- In order to help biodiversity, we try to preserve the nature around the buildings as untouched as possible, put up bird houses and insect hotels in the trees that are on the premises and restore the nature areas back to the original growth (for example growing moss) if digging or other ground work has been done.
Indoor Environment
- The hotel and the rooms have been designed and built with natural materials and Finnish quality
Social Responsibility
- We collaborate with local schools and educational institutions by offering internships and trainings, and other tourism businesses on the area when developing services and sustainability in Rovaniemi, and sponsor local communities related to children and sports.
